Khris: For those who don't know you give us a little background
about yourself?
Alex: I started in main stream adult 7 years ago. I wanted to change the way Black Porn was being made. I did
have something to prove and I wanted to be different. I was a fan of porn for many years before becoming a working porn professional.
I feel that the consumer is the most important person in the equation.

Knowing that I just wanted to produce what people wanted to see and what I felt was missing from
most porn scenes. I brought my unique vision with me. Its called DeVoism, the essence of what I do.
I think sex should be erotic
and sensual. I like things dark and dirty, yet passionate and memorable. I am a very complex person. Therefore I can frequently
shoot elaborate setups. I do understand also the importance of being able to get right to the sex with only minimal setup.
Because of this I make
it a habit of shooting many different styles according to the title and niche of the product.
Khris: What was the first video you did?
Alex: First video was shot in Hawaii. I used all local talent and Diana DeVoe, before she was Diana DeVoe
Khris: Many people remember you as Diana DeVoe's hubby,
but you two are not together anymore.
Alex: For the record, we were never married. I carried the stage
name DeVoe first and I suggested she adopt the name as well. It was always my
dream to make adult movies. She wanted to be a part of what I was doing. We broke up five years ago. She has developed her
own identity as a Director and has become successful in her own right.
I wish her nothing but
the best. No more Diana DeVoe questions……….

Khris: Recently you join Jules Jordan Video after being
with West Coast Productions for years why the change?
Alex: Higher price point on DVD sales, Greater distribution channels.
Khris: Let's talk about ownership only of a few blacks
own their catalog. Do you own any of your WCP stuff?
Alex: No. I own all of my Alexander DeVoe Productions titles. I was a contract Director for WCP. I got return on sales from my titles. Distributions deals in the business are rare. Only a handful of directors
in the business Black, White or other have distribution deals. I am one of the
Elite. The other alternative is self distribution, which will be the next step in the chain for me. I will take my Company,
Black Angel Entertainment, solo in a couple of years.
Khris: Do you feel it's harder to get respect as a black
in porn?
Alex: No. I don’t believe there is a big difference between
Black and White. Its just matters how good one is at doing business, how marketable you are and if you have waht it takes
to succeed.

Khris: Alot of pro-ams have sprouted up on the East Coast
what your opinion on the pro am scene?
Alex: I don’t knock anyone’s hustle. I was one of those
guys back in the day. I shot video in Hawaii before coming to LA. I just think that they have
a different flavor that may not be universally accepted across the board because the content is so different. I enjoy meeting these guys because I have inspired a lot of them to do what they do. I see alot of me in them, you know the hungry look in their eyes and the passion in their voicces when
they speak. Its great!!! I would
say to them don't stop doing it.
Khris: Seems like everyone is claiming to shoot in HD what
your opinion of it?
Alex: I shoot all HD now. There is quite a learning curve here. You
have to have the right team to put it all together. My first title was a little
rough getting edited. W had to master five times because it was not output properly. I am going to switch to HD 24P now. I just like the look of film in my productions because that’s where I come from.
Khris: Being a black in porn what is your opinion of the
current state of black porn today? Alex: I consider myself to be a pioneer in the revolution and evolution of Black porn. Now we have white companies that have adopted a different strategy towards making Black product. They have created all Black companies and hired Black people to direct projects. I feel that this still has very limited lifespan. The consumer is very sophisticated. In the end it will be the strong who survive and by that I mean us of color who have a vested interest
in making good product because we are Black. I really don’t think that people are

doing anything radical
in Black porn. I am very disappointed that the market has shifted to bigger,
and uglier Black female talent. Now its hard for Pretty Black women to keep working
because everyone wants to jump on the big booty band wagon. As a rule I try not
to follow. I always want to be ahead of the game by putting out product that
people will imitate. I don't like the fact that our people are selling themselves out for the almighty dollar to certain companies.
Khris: What advice would you give to young men & women
wanting to get into the game?
Alex: First of all have respect for the game and those who came before you. Stay humble in the beginning and
never let your ego get in the way of making good business decisions. Understand what your competitive advantage is. Always
be original. Take risks and surround yourself with competent professionals. One must realize that porn is a business comprised
of professionals who are looking for talent who can “perform”.
Black talent, specifically
Black Female talent need to understand that its not all about the money. Its about being a good actress. Most Black girls
come to the business to make money. Most White and others come to the business to be porn stars. We need more Black female Porn Stars…….Period!

Khris: Did you attend the AVN Expo?
Alex: Yes. My company Alexander DeVoe Productions is distributed by Jules Jordan Video

Khris: It's funny that you've inked with Jules. Rumor was
you 2 were beefing?
Alex: No. We exchanged words on Adult DVD talk. Then I met him the following year at the show and we had a laugh.
After that he hit me up and when we met he offered me a deal.
Khris: Why did you stop performing and move into directing?
Alex: I never really stopped performing. I just found it absurd to say I was directing if I was in front f the
camera. Also I experienced a lot of bad directors who pissed me off. I always saw more power in owning, producing and directing anyway.
From day one I never wanted to be a porn star. I always wanted to own and create things that people would remember. It was something I was born to do. I
climbed the ladder really fast. Guys I used to jack off to were being hired by
me and calling me for work. It was really funny.
I got a lot of hate for
a while. But I got used to that, fuck I was on a mission, LOL.
Khris: Who are you a fan of porn wise?
Alex: I don’t watch porn anymore. I used to watch it 24/7
before I came to the biz. Back then it was Butt Man, John Stagliano movies that
I jacked off to. I met him. We talked. Then I got over it. He passed on me as a director. He asked me why I just didn’t
start my own company. I took it as a sign.
Khris: One thing I respect about you is your willingness
to build with people on the net and give advice. Now it seems every xxx person has a Myspace page. Has the net helped your career?
Alex: I don’t think the net has had any direct correlation
to me being successful at all. I think it has made me more accessible to the fans, however.
Khris: Now if heads wanted to get at you how can they reach
you?
Alex: Email me at alexdevoe@sexshoota.com or contact me directly at 213-272-7080
Khris: Are you on Myspace?
Alex: Yes. http://www.myspace.com/alexanderdevoe
Khris: Do you have an Xpeeps Page?
Alex: Yes. http://xpeeps.com/member.php?u=105892

Khris: Lastly what do you want to say to your fans?
Alex: I am one of the realest motherfuckers on the planet. I was
a fan of porn before I came to the biz. I am 100% approachable and welcome any and all feedback, both positive and negative. Without the consumer buying my product I don’t eat. Feel free to hit me up anytime
to make suggestions about what you want to see. Keep watching and stroking.
Thanks for being fans!!!!!!
